Ok I have to admit that I resisted reading the Harry Potter series untill the third book came out. Then on an odd day my father picked the series up to see what all the hoop la was about it and he loved them so much that he insisted that I as his son read them. And read them i did.. The stories of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and his other friends are full of moral values, exitement, and high adventure. The books are designed to advance with the childs grade level and age. The first book (and this is my opinion not fact as far as I know) seems to be designed for fourth grade. it is a very simple read with easy vocab (well unless you try the character names) and themes that are appropriate for that age group. As you read the next book it heads into 5th grade reading level and so forth with all the books. I would highly recommend this to any parent that can see the moral themes behind the very enchanting storyline.

Isn't it amazing that the more J. K. Rowling writes the better she gets? I have never been a big reading fan, but once I read the first book I was hooked. The first book is an introduction into Harry Potter and his world. Rowling describes the scenes so vividly it is easy to picture his world. She is so good at this that at some times you believe he is a real character. The Chamber of Secrets, 2nd book, is an excellent sequel to an already excellent book. This is Harry's second year at Hogwarts; many of the things that happen in the first book are explained here giving the reader a better understanding of a very understandable book. The third book, The Prisoner of Azkaban, leaves the other two books behind. Harry discovers a great deal abut his past in this book. He discovers that the Dursley's aren't all the family he has left. This book keeps you thinking and choosing sides trying to find out what the real truth is. In the fourth book, the best one up to now, The Goblet of Fire, Harry is faced with a whole new list of obstacles. He is in his fourth year by now and living up to wizarding standards. He meets more people and is faced with the dilemma of whom to trust. Out of the four books this is the longest one, but Rowling continues with her excellent writing and vivid descriptions. It just blows you away. She juggles about five different situations all at once unifying them in the most orchestrated way where you don't believe you are reading a 734 page book. I personally recommend the Harry Potter books to anyone, and everyone. It doesn't matter if you are 10 or 100 years old. If you want to have a good time reading alone or with your family this are the books to read. If you saw the movie and liked it, the books are even better.
Rating: - A fantastic new series!
Those who have read Harry Potter, understand what it's like to be swept into the magical Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizadry. Full of characters who are often larger than life (think Hagrid the groundskeeper), and filled with magic, adventure and excitement, kids and adults all over the world are clamouring for the next installment (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) in what is a worldwide phenomenon. Harry Potter is a marvelous new series from a very talented author who knows how to keep her readers in suspense, hold the attention of her readers and inspire generations of people to enjoy reading again. What can I say? Fantastic! The books are about an adolescent boy called Harry Potter. After the death of his parents at age one, he was raised by his aunt and uncle and had a horrible childhood until his eleventh birthday when he found out that he was a wizard. Swept off to Hogwarts, Harry and his two best friends Ron and Hermione entered a world where magic is only too real - both the good and the bad. Harry becomes a Seeker (catches a tiny flying ball in a basketballish game on broomsticks) for Gryffindor House and watches a dragon being born and knocks out a troll. All three friends must work hard at their lessons though, as in each book, they face new and different forms of evil. With Hermione's excellent knowledge, Ron's support and the principal Albus Dumbledore's wisdom, Harry must fight the evil to ensure the safety of the magical community. Fabulous! I would recommend this book to anyone, especially people who haven't really enjoyed reading and people who think magic and things is nonsense. However, a word of warning, while containing magic, a bit of rulebreaking and a tiny bit of violence, Harry Potter doesn't encourage cult fanaticism or dark magic as some groups seem to think. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but as for me, I think that schools or adults banning children to read these books just don't know what real magic they're missing out on.
