Rating: - The First book is still the best for Preston Child
I recently decided to pick up the first book written by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child and give it a go. I am a huge fan of these two, and for some odd reason, I never picked up The Relic. No I am mad at myself for not picking it up earlier.Having read Reliquary and all of their other books, I had the basic story line of The Relic down before I opened the cover, so I was not expecting much. Well, I was wrong, this book is filled with incredible action, and details that keeps it moving at such a fast pace. One mistake leads to another, and things just keep moving. I enjoyed meeting Agent Pengergrast for the first time, and I though the other characters were developed very well. All in all, this is the first Preston Child book, and it is still the best, Cabinet of Curiosities comes in a close second! This book is highly recommended! Also, if you have seen the movie, pick up the book, there are so many differences that it is almost a whole new story!
Rating: - A great book for Science fiction/mystery lovers
I read The Relic before I saw the movie. As it goes I enjoyed the book just as much as the movie, and maybe a little more. The characters were well done. I enjoyed reading about one character in particular. Agent Pendergast wasn't in the movie, but I think that he is the best person in the book. You never knew what he would do next and I was always surprised with his knowledge. The Relic didn't use gore and violence to carry its plot. The interaction between the scientists, and the way that each induvidual reacted to the beast, was very interesting. If you are the type who likes science fiction you will love the way that the scientists piece together the mystery. If you like horror you will enjoy the way the monster kills people. I don't want to give away the end, but DON"T skip the Epilogue. You can't help but gasp when you read it. All in all this was a great book and I can't wait for the sequal
Rating: - fast-paced thriller, great setting, interesting characters
This story begins in the Amazon jungle but quickly changes to New York's Museum of Natural History as the mysterious crates of a tragic scientific expedition become the focus of a a homicide investigation. Bodies have been found torn apart in the dark recesses of the Museum, and FBI agent Pendergast joins forces with the NYC police to solve the crimes before the Museum's big exhibition opening and party a couple of days away. But is the killer even human? This is a fun and fast-paced thriller. The NY Natural History Museum is an inspired setting, with loads of creepy objects stored in labyrinthine splendor. Also, the characters are very interesting, and not formulaic (FBI=brilliant, police=bad/stupid) as many thrillers are. The scientists shine as they help solve the mystery, and the suspense is maintained throughout this 470 page book.
