Average Rating:
Rating: - Cornfed is interesting, but the author doesn't deliver.
The book is a sensationalist work, the dog mauling story could have been told in a few chapters so it's no wonder why the author digresses and focuses on Paul "Cornfed" Schneider. Cornfed is a figure that will be remembered as one of the greatest arch-criminals of the present era. Jones' potrait of Cornfed falls short of the necessary detail, due, no doubt, to her inability to obtain information about this modern day criminal mastermind, but the book gives the reader enough so they are begging to know more about Cornfed -whom Jones calls our modern day "Hannibal Lecter." A crazy story that contains numerous distortions and facts that arguably contrary to the truth, but once again these facts will, no doubt help sale The Red Zone. So, purchase it if think you might want to read about Cornfed our modern day Lex Luther.

I could not put this book down! I could not wait to get home to read further. This true story was twisted beyond your imagination. Nigthmares are in your future after reading this.
Rating: - Sleazy
A big disapointment. I should have known after hearing Jones being interviewed on NPR. She came off as self-promoting and sensationalistic. I had hoped that the book would be better. It isn't. Her prose is sterile and overly focuses on direct quotations where a summary would do fine. Beyond that it reads like a literary version of the Jerry Springer show. It's no wonder that none of Diane Whipple's friends or family members would cooperate with Jones. They probably smelled her coming a mile away. Reading Red Zone is something akin to passing by a an accident on the highway and gazing at the carnage as you pass by, it makes you feel sleazy for having done so. Clearly Jones is a woman with no shame.
