Average Rating: Rating: - Absolutely the best thing you can do for your score! Taking the tests in 10 Real SAT's is by far the best thing you can do to raise your score. Really. Becoming familiar with the test, seeing the types of questions and just getting in the SAT taking mindset will help you more than any vocabulary flashcards, math worksheets, tutors, or SAT programs ever will (and the book is a lot less expensive!). Though I did not score poorly on my PSAT's, I did want to score significantly better. After doing those flash cards and math sheets and visiting a few tutors, my score had gone up, but not as much as I had wanted it to. So, for the two months before the big test day, I took one full test every Saturday (it sounds like I lot, I know, but it's not that bad!). With each test, my score went up 10-30 points, and on test day, I did even better than I had been doing on the practice tests, raising my score to the level I had wanted. My advice: buy this book, and take at least three or four tests. It WILL raise your score! (Unless you're consistently getting 1600's, of course...) Rating: - Get this book This is a book you should get even if you also insist on getting one of those Kaplan-style books that try to teach you tips and tricks for the test. The tests printed in this book are authentic and exactly like the real SAT. If you do several of these before you take the actual test, and look over each one to see what you did wrong - that is probably the best way to prepare short of ruining your life and memorizing lists of stuff. (Which probably would not work anyway.) Math is not my strong suit and my score went up significantly just through looking at the tests and realizing that the same sorts of questions come up over and over again - so it is best to get to know them well. Verbal wise, I can't really offer any good tricks for people who have trouble with that. Just start reading I suppose... So to summarize, I'll say that using this book and familiarizing yourself with the test is the single best thing you can do to prepare. Rating: - Ideal SAT Prep Tool In my opinin, "10 Real Sats" is the most effective book you can find for preparing for the SAT I's. The first half of the book contains all the review material that you will need to prepare for the math and verbal sections in a clear and concise format. As long as you have been fairly concious during your high school english and math classes, this book reviews all major concepts that you will need to know...how do I know? Well, because I took the SATs several months ago, and because this book, as it lets you know many times, IS made by the test-makers. Therefore, it ACTUALLY DOES contain the most accurate and specific information. The review consists of concept outlines, example problems with full explanations, practice problems, and how to answer each type of question. And you know what? It is VERY true to the test itself. As for the 10 real SATs, they are, indeed, ten real SATs. I believe that this is really the best way to prepare, because it familiarizes you with the several different types of questions (saved me LOTS of time on the test becuase I didn't have to puzzle over directions very long), and allows you to concentrate on the portions that you feel the least confident about. You may not end up actually taking all 10, but it's nice to know that they're available, and that you can pass them on to future generations of SAT scholars. In short, this book boosted my knowledge and my confidence, helping me to succeed beyond my hopes on the SAT I. My math score (math being my weak point) went up 140 points from the PSAT, totally owing to this book. I highly recommend it as a very unique, accurate, and effective prep tool.
